Cincinnati-based collaborative pianist and vocal coach Matthew Umphreys specializes in opera, chamber music, and musical theater. Matthew works as a coach and pianist with organizations such as a Cincinnati Opera, concert:nova, RokCincy, Cincinnati Children’s Theatre, and the Schmidt Vocal Institute. He is a founding member of the contemporary chamber music ensemble All of the Above, the ensemble-in-residence at Xavier University in Cincinnati. The group performed at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy in July 2017, and made their Carnegie Hall debut in December 2017. Their first album was recorded at Queens College in February 2018 and will be released later this year through Ablaze Records. 

Matthew graduated from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music with his Master's degree in Collaborative Piano in 2014. He joined the music faculty at Xavier University in 2016 and currently serves as Director of Music at Columbia Baptist and Linwood Baptist churches in Cincinnati. Matthew is a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa and received his undergraduate degree in Piano Performance and Business Management in 2011 from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
